We love soaping and we want to share why this is important to us, with you.
Back in 2019, I used the maternity leave I had for my daughter to home-school my two very lovely but energetic boys. After attempting the corporate/public service game for years, I gave up and decided to better focus my hard work.
Simple right? Not so much. I am a naturally curious person. My curiosity usually takes me everywhere. There is never a dull moment in my mind! One question I’m glad I asked myself, how do you make a bar of soap? I didn’t know the answer, so, out popped the laptop, the questions started flying and the Saabuni journey began.
A lot of times I get asked ‘but why make your own soap?’ I also get asked, ‘Is natural soap actually better?’
To answer these questions, I’ve given my three-minute breakdown below. The benefits of natural soap are infinite, but any more Saabuni conversation will have to be done over cup of chai. You just need to say the word and we’re ready to talk about natural soaping.
Five Reasons why natural soap is better:
1) It is actually soap
I know, I know… this was a mind-blowing moment for me too.
The soaps you see in a supermarket or a drug store are just a cocktail of chemicals and detergents in disguise. There is nothing natural about them and so many of them aren’t even really ‘soap’. Many “soaps” on the market today are, in fact, just not soap. They are cleansers, detergents, or other types of products regulated as a cosmetic
2) It is made with natural ingredients
The very best reason to use natural soap is the ingredients. A product is only as good as the ingredients used to make it.
Each of our Saabuni soaps are made with oils beneficial to the skin. All our product choices have started with the same question – how does this benefit the skin?
Inspired by our love of India we then make each soap bar unique by adding a variety of organic butters, oils and essential oils to provide natural colour, aromatherapy and skin cleansing.
The result of our painstakingly, meticulous research is a naturally fragranced, rich, moisturising soap that feels creamy in your hands, offers a frothy lather, and leaves your skin clean, soft, silky, and radiant.
3) It contains skin moisturising glycerine
Handmade soap contains moisturising natural glycerine. Glycerine is a gentle emollient which draws moisture from the air to the skin to create a moisturising protective layer. Glycerine naturally occurs from the chemical reaction which makes soap and it is known to increase hydration, relieve dryness and refresh the skins surface. Commercial soaps chemically remove the naturally occurring glycerine in the soap. This results in a soap that dries the skin. The reason for doing this? To increase shelf life of the soap!
4) It's economical
A bar of soap more economical than liquid soap. Many people wonder why they are able to go through a bottle of liquid soap so quickly. This is because liquid soap is usually diluted with water. So, it may seem that gram for gram a liquid soap is more value for money but the water weight is the very thing that makes that bottle of liquid soap disappear so quickly.
Natural soap may come with a higher price point, but benefits far outweigh the cost. At Saabuniwe have used high quality ingredients and gently fragranced our soaps with natural essential oils. We believe the saying ‘you get what you pay for’ rings true when comparing our soaps to a commercial brand.
5) They’re environmentally friendly
Our actions have a profound impact on the world around us. At Saabuni we have committed to doing better one soap bar at a time. We believe keeping the environment clean as well as our bodies and minds! Our soaps are chemical free, without synthetic dyes, preservatives or detergents.
Furthermore, at Saabuni, all our packaging is plastic free, it is made out of paper or cardboard and can be recycled. Talk to us about our commitments to reducing our carbon footprint.
After all the soap talk, you’re probably tired of the drama!
But if we still have your attention, next time you’re buying soap take a dip into the Saabuni range. Our personal favourite is the Turmeric Flavour. As well as the luxurious oils and essential oils beneficial to the skin, this soap contains Turmeric powder and turmeric essential oil. Turmeric is known to even the skin tone and provide an overall glow to the skin.
Our Turmeric flavoured soap bar is also available as an exfoliating soap and a massaging soap
In conclusion
From its composition to its benefits to its impact on the environment, natural soap is very different from commercial soap.
Natural soaps are really soap. At Saabuni we want you to embrace the simple pleasure of using natural soap.
Your skin will notice the difference and your skin will thank you.
