Sisala (see-sa-la)
Sisal, known as Sisala in Punjabi, is a xerophytic (drought-tolerant), monocarp (once flowering), semi-perennial plant native to Central America, historically used by the Aztecs and Maya. It thrives in arid environments and grows up to 2 metres in leaf length, producing 200–250 usable leaves over its 7–10 year lifespan. Each leaf contains thousands of fibres used for making ropes, mats, cloth, and paper.
In skincare, sisal is valued for its exfoliating properties, as sisal cloths or gloves are used to gently remove dead skin cells, promoting smoother skin texture and improving circulation.
In India, sisal has been cultivated since the 1950s and is grown in states like Odisha, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. It is valued for its environmental benefits, such as reducing soil erosion and being pesticide-free. While India produces sisal fibre domestically for various uses, it exports approximately 8–9 tonnes annually, contributing modestly to the global market.

The base is made from beechwood which is recyclable. The darker inner ring is made from copper bristles which is recyclable. The outer ring is made from sisal which is biodegradable and recyclable.
The elastic band is made from rubberised elastic which is surrounded by cotton fiber - both recyclable.
