Kansa, an alloy of copper and tin, has been used in India since the Bronze Age, around 3300 BCE, making it one of the earliest metal alloys developed by ancient Indian civilisations. It was prominently utilised during the Indus Valley Civilisation (2600–1900 BCE) for creating utensils, weapons, jewelry, and religious artifacts. The wooden base is made from teak which is recyclable. The Kansa is a copper alloy which is recyclable.
What we’re working on: The adhesive bonding the Kansa elements to the wooden base isn’t recyclable or biodegradable. We’ve had in-depth discussions with our suppliers, who are actively searching for a biodegradable alternative that still does the job. They haven’t found the perfect solution yet, but we’re definitely making progress!
